Search the Public Notice PortalAn extension for plans to transform a vacant industrial unit in east Ipswich into a Sizewell C bus depot has been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council.
Proposals for a two-year extension were submitted to the council to restore land at Ransomes Industrial Park, ahead of being turned into a temporary hydrogen and electric bus depot whilst Sizewell C construction takes place.
Plans for the temporary use of the front forecourt as a bus depot for a period of up to 24 months were approved in 2024 with a condition that the site must be decommissioned and restored by August 2026 at the latest.
However, permission is being sought to now delay the restoration of the land by just under two years, keeping the site as a bus depot until February 2028.
In April of this year, developers also submitted plans for larger bus depot on the same site which included installing four hydrogen refuelling stations alongside electric charging infrastructure for a mixed fleet of around 154 buses.
The proposal centres on adapting an existing 8,000 sq m building in Central Avenue for use over a period of up to 15 years.
