The trial of an Ipswich man accused of raping and sexually assaulting a schoolboy will not take place for more than two years because of the backlog of cases in the criminal justice system.

Before Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday, May 26, for a plea and trial preparation hearing was 34-year-old Barrie Ryder of Halifax Road, Ipswich.

He pleaded not guilty to five offences of rape, three offences of sexual assault and two offences of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Ryder’s trial, which is expected to last four days, will get underway on July 10, 2028.
