Drivers are set to face a major diversion as a section of A14 is closed tonight.

Engineers for National Highways will be working on the A14 eastbound between junction 55 for Copdock and Wherstead.

It will be closed between 8pm and 6am for essential resurfacing work.

Emergency vehicles will be permitted through the road works.

A diversion route will take other motorists through Ipswich.

It is as followed:

  • Exit the A14 eastbound at junction 55
  • Follow the A1214 ring road through Ipswich
  • Continue on the A1214 until you reach the A12 Martlesham roundabout
  • Take the A12 southbound exit
  • Continue along the A12 to rejoin the A14 at junction 58

It is estimated the diversion will take around half an hour to complete.

The diversion route is long as it has to follow main roads for larger vehicles, like HGVS, which may not be able to use alternative routes.
