Ipswich will open its history books with a series of free events next month as part of Heritage Open Days.
As part of the celebration, Ipswich Tourist Guides will lead three guided walks during the September festival, each exploring one many aspects of history and heritage in the town.
The guides will join with other voluntary groups in Heritage Open Days, England's largest festival of history and culture with free events being held from Friday, September 11 until Sunday, September 20.
Ipswich Tourist guides will lead three walks with topics ranging from the town’s wealth of buildings, to the social lives of its poorer inhabitants; and the work of civic, heritage and creative groups over many decades to preserve, protect and promote Ipswich's culture.
The walks are scheduled as follows:
- Saturday, September 12 - Discover "The Story of Ipswich in 10 Buildings" from 10.30am
- Sunday, September 13 - Hear about "Life Through the Ages" from 10.30am
- Saturday, September 18 - Celebrate “Unsung Heritage Heroes” from 2.00pm
Tickets are free but those hoping to attend should book in advance.
