A café which has enjoyed a successful first year in business, going viral on social media while helping to bring the community together, has celebrated its first anniversary with the help of a number of Ipswich Town stars.
21 Young Hearts in Martlesham marked its first birthday with a special community celebration, bringing together local organisations, supporters, friends and families to reflect on an incredible first 12 months.
The café was opened with the aim of creating opportunities, encouraging independence and confidence, and providing a welcoming and inclusive space for people in the community. Over the past year, it has grown from a new venture into a much-loved meeting place, attracting support from across the local area and beyond.
Its heartwarming videos have also helped put 21 Young Hearts in the national spotlight, with several going viral on social media and introducing thousands of people to the café’s inspiring story and the people at the centre of it.
As its popularity has continued to grow, the café has extended its opening times, allowing even more people to visit and enjoy what it has to offer.
Sunday’s anniversary celebration was a fitting way to mark the milestone, with members of the Ipswich Town Women squad among those joining the festivities.
Sharon Hobbs said: “Sunday was a great, relaxed and enjoyable day for the whole community and being able to share this with everyone was very special. And to have the Ipswich Town Ladies join us was the icing on the cake; they were brilliant.”
The day also proved successful in raising money, with approximately £1,000 collected.
In a message following the event, 21 Young Hearts thanked everyone who had supported the café during its first year, saying it had been overwhelmed by the “love, support and kindness” received.
After a remarkable first year, the team is now looking forward to continuing its work, creating opportunities, bringing people together and helping to make the community a more inclusive place.
