A SECOND motorcyclist has been killed on the region's roads this weekend.

Mateusz Lech, 23, from Poland, was fatally injured when his bike hit a lamppost on the forecourt of a petrol station.

It happened at the BP garage at the Ardleigh Crown junction of the A12 at Colchester, Essex, at 12.50pm today.

A 21-year-old Polish woman, who was a passenger on the bike, was taken to hospital suffering minor injuries, police said.

Essex Police is appealing for witnesses to the crash.

This follows the death of a second biker who died on the A134 in west Suffolk last night.

The 28-year-old rider, from the Sudbury area, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the A134 at Great Cornard near the Wyevale Garden Centre at 7.05pm.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said the crash involved the motorcycle and a 4x4 vehicle. Nobody else was seriously hurt in the collision, the police said.

The A134 was shut off for five hours last night as collision investigators and recovery teams carried out their work.

The police are calling for anybody who saw the crash or who previously saw two riders heading towards Sudbury down the A134 to contact them on 01473 613500.
