POLICE are investigating the rape of an 87-year-old woman in her Yarmouth home.

POLICE are investigating the rape of an 87-year-old woman in her Yarmouth home.

The attack is believed to have happened between 3pm and 8.45pm on Monday between the town centre and the seafront.

Yarmouth CID and the Major Investigation Team are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and the victim is being cared for by her family, with the support of Social Services.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Stuart Armes of Great Yarmouth CID said: “We are at the early stages of the investigation and in the process of establishing exactly what happened.

“The victim, who is vulnerable, has suffered a traumatic experience and is being questioned by specially trained officers.

“Offences such as this are extremely rare and we are working to help reassure the local community.

“I would ask anyone living or working in the area who saw anyone acting suspiciously and who meets the description to contact police as soon as possible.”

The attacker is described as a white man, between 30 and 40, with an untidy appearance and possibly wearing a hat.
