One lane of the A14’s westbound carriageway has been closed in Suffolk while firefighters tackle a blaze in a crop field nearby.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue received “numerous” reports of a fire in a field near Sproughton from about 6.30pm and sent four appliances, a water carrier and a specialist Unimog vehicle to attend.

Suffolk police were asked to close the road at the junction with Sproughton Lane at about 7.10pm to allow firefighters access to the site.

A hectare of crop stubble was described as “well alight” at 7.15pm and firefighters using beaters took about 50 minutes more to extinguish the fire.
