AN accident on the A14 today is causing a knock-on effect on road works on the edge of Ipswich.

The borough council's seven day resurfacing safety work in Norwich Road, which started today, is dependant on asphalt and other materials coming from the other side of Stowmarket, the scene of the crash.

As a result, the off-peak limit of works will be extended into tonight.

The road works are taking place between Meredith Road and the Bury Road junction and diversions are in place for out-of-town traffic via Whitehouse Road and Goddard Road. Incoming traffic is not affected by the diversion.

A council spokesman said: “This evening extension is due to circumstances outside our control.

“We are working as hard as we can and apologise for any delays.”
