THE finance industry and the economy at large was dealt another blow today with the news that Lloyds Banking Group is to axe almost 1,000 jobs.

A spokesman for the banking giant, formed in January following the acquisition of HBOS, said the job losses - affecting staff who process motor finance - follow a decision taken last year by the Bank of Scotland.

Around 200 jobs will be affected at Speke on Merseyside, and 340 at Chester while the rest will affect the national sales force spread across the UK.
