POLICE were today hunting the drug growers behind a suspected cannabis factory which was uncovered after neighbours thought a property had been broken into.

Officers were called to a house in Atherton Road in the Ellenbrook Green area of Ipswich just before 5.30am yesterday and on arrival they found a back door to the house open.

When they entered, instead of finding signs of a break-in, police found signs that the house had been used as a cannabis factory.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said neighbours had become worried about a possible break-in because the back door was ajar.

She said: “A neighbour reported it, they thought there was a young person who lived there alone.”

The spokeswoman said officers found “a lot of soil and plant cuttings” within the house but no actual cannabis plants.

Scenes of crime officers were called to the address and officers began making enquiries with neighbours about the occupants of the house.

An electricity company was called in to make the house safe and it was boarded up.

Anyone with information about the identity of those living in the house or who saw anything suspicious in Atherton Road should call Pc Craig Rumens at Ipswich police station on 01473 613500.
