AN Ipswich man could be jailed after he admitted breaching his Asbo by getting drunk.

AN Ipswich man is facing a possible jail term after pleading guilty to breaching an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) by getting drunk.

South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court heard that Ian Williams, 41, of Birkfield Drive, was handed the Asbo in February this year banning him from getting drunk in the town.

The court heard that police were called to the Rose and Crown pub, in Norwich Road, Ipswich, on December 11 after reports of a man being “troublesome”.

By the time officers arrived he had moved on to a kebab shop where he was arrested.

Stephen Colman, prosecuting, said: “An Asbo prohibits him from being drunk in a public place.

“Officers said he appeared drunk and arrested him for breaching the Asbo.”

Mr Colman said it is the second time Williams has breached the Asbo, the other occasion being in June when he was handed a community order as a result.

Ian Duckworth, mitigating, said his client “can't keep his mouth shut when he's had a drink.”

“He was attacked two months ago and has 24 inch gash across his face,” Mr Duckworth continued.

“A close family friend died ten days ago.

“He turns to alcohol when he is stressed.”

Magistrates ordered an all-options report prior to sentencing, which will take place on January 16.

Williams was warned that a custodial sentence has not been ruled out. He was granted unconditional bail.
