Banned driver forced to hire chauffeur

Automobile engineer, Clive Mann, admitted speeding after he was stopped on the A14 at Nacton driving at 94 mph in a 70 mph limit.
The 64-year-old – who already had points on his licence – voiced special reasons in a bid to avoid a driving ban, but these were turned down by magistrates.
Mann, who covers an average of 25,000 miles a year in UK and Europe, told the court: "I have been driving for 46 years and this is the first time I have appeared in court.
"Obviously I am very sorry for committing this offence and apologise to the court for this uncharacteristic behaviour."
He added he was speeding to get away from Peugeot saloon car, which was "tailgating me."

Reading from a written statement he told magistrates he needed his vehicle because he lives in a remote area of Suffolk.
"I live two miles from the nearest village and four from the nearest town and there is no public transport," he said.
He also uses his car to visit his teenage daughter who is studying in Italy and to pick up his wife from the railway station.
Magistrates told Mann, of Scotts Hall, Westleton, Saxmundham, he didn't qualify for special reasons because his wife is also a car driver and his business won't be jeopardised by the driving ban.
Mann, – who already has nine points on his licence – was given five more which meant that he qualifies for a ban. He was also fined £400 and ordered to pay £35 costs.
