BRACE yourself for the onslaught of wind and rain but be thankful for living in the east of the country.

Britain is set to be hit by a front of unseasonal weather coming in from the Atlantic over the next few days.

Gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are predicted for areas in the south-west with gales sweeping in to end the week in miserable style. Exposed coasts and hills in England and Wales are expected to be hit worst.

However, although East Anglia will be subjected to an element of this dismal weather it is unlikely to suffer as badly as other areas in the country.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office today said: "It's not going to be as windy near Ipswich as it will be in the west.

"It will be gusty on Friday with winds maybe reaching 50mph and there will also be some heavy rain.

"On Saturday it will not be as windy but the rain will continue."

Meanwhile people in the south-west are preparing to batten down the hatches following weather warnings and advice that second thought should be given to going out in small boats, towing caravans or putting up tents and marquees.

The forthcoming bad weather is in complete contrast to the country's recent mini heatwave.

At the end of last week temperatures rose to the mid to late 20s on the centigrade scale and people headed to their nearest parks and beaches to grasp the opportunity to soak up some rays.
