THEY are the most magnificent toys anyone could own - that was the view of Bentley owners as they showed off their pride and joy at an Ipswich rally.

Proud Bentley enthusiasts showed off around 20 classic cars from the Bentley Drivers' Club Eastern Region after meeting on the Waterfront in a passionate display of English motoring heritage.

Clive Underdown, rally organiser, said: “We don't consider ourselves owners of the vehicles, we believe we are merely custodians.

“We are not a collection of wealthy gentleman. Some people re-mortgage their houses and work on their cars for 30 years.”

Brian Robinson, who owns a 1928 Le Mans-type Tourer, added: “They are just absolutely fantastic things - quality British craftsmanship.”

The group had lunch on the Waterfront and then went to Mr Underdown's house in Waldringfield for cream teas, the proceeds of which will go to the Cancer Campaign in Suffolk.

The Bentley Drivers' Club has more than 3,000 members, with around 690 in the Eastern Region arm.
