SENIOR borough boss Billy Brennan has received a thank you note from the woman whose life he saved after she nearly drowned off Thailand.

Mr Brennan was on the last full day of his holiday on the paradise island of Phuket when he saw the woman being dragged from the sea.

As revealed by The Evening Star last Saturday, Mr Brennan and a teacher from Shropshire who had some first aid training stepped in when other people had given up on the 37-year-old woman.

Now Mr Brennan has received a thank you e-mail from the woman who is known as Poom.

She said: “I am getting better and I know I owe my life to you, thank you. Thank you.”

In faltering English she said that she still has to see a doctor weekly to check on how her lungs are recovering from the damage they suffered during her ordeal.

But she should make a full recovery and is getting stronger all the time.

Mr Brennan said: “It was wonderful to get the e-mail. It really does make everything worthwhile to realise we really did save a life.”

She had been trying to get a message to him before, but had not got the right e-mail address. “But the message reached me eventually and I am very grateful for it,” Mr Brennan added.

He repeated his advice for anyone interested in saving lives to find out about courses that were on offer in the area.

“This showed how you really can make a difference - and I'm telling you there is nothing better than the thought that you've actually saved a life,” he said.
