Ipswich: Resident calls for a road train for visitors

Actor and businessman Sean Blowers is a great champion for the Ipswich Waterfront.

Sean, probably best known for his time starring in the televesion drama London’s Burning. has an apartment close to the quayside which he shares with his wife Shirley.

He is also a carer for his wife Shirley, who is partially blind.

I met him at the Continental Colours Cafe on the quayside, where he was relaxing with a coffee with local developer Ken Ferris, on another glorious day at Waterfront.

Sean said: “There is nothing better than waking up alongside the Waterfront.

“It is absolutely lovely down here.

“This is the jewel in the crown of Ipswich. It is amazing in summer.

“Hopefully we will see more development here, with the economy improving, and the recent news about the Wine Rack being sold.

“There are things that need tackling.

“The route down Fore Street to the Waterfront is quite good.

“Yet St Peter’s Street is still the most beautiful street in the town, I think, and there is a hole in the middle between it and the Waterfront.

“Something is needed to link all the way from to the town and the Cornhill.”

For people wanting to explore the Waterfront a great idea would be to introduce a road train, he said.

“Something like they have at Felixstowe. It would be great for visitors, especially in the summer months, and when there are events on.

“I love the water and seeing all the boats.

“I’ve done a bit of sailing, and I once took part in the BT Global Challenge, Round the World Race (in 1996), so I always love being around boats.

“It is just amazing in the summer down here.

“I love it, and it is vital for Ipswich. It brings people here.”
