Young hairstylist James Hayter, of Edge salon in Ipswich, has reached the national Goldwell Color Zoom finals in the New Talent section.

James,20, who lives in Ipswich, is the youngest of five finalists chosen for the New Talent category, and the only male stylist short-listed.

“It is very exciting,” he said, “and I am very nervous as well. The other four finalists are girls, and from other parts of the country.

“It is a big honour to be selected as a finalist, as one of the top five in the country.”

The five finalists were chosen by photographic entries of their work.

James’ model was Bridie Iachetta.

Former St Albans School pupil James has been a hairstylist for four years, and followed his mother Donna into the hairdressing profession.

He said: “I have always been interested in hairdressing. I always had it around me, because of my mother.

“The winners are announced at the Goldwell Summer Party at the Freemasons’ Hall in London on July 19.

“My boss Simon Smith, mum Donna and Amy Gibbs will be coming down to London with me.

“It will be my first time at the finals.”
