Sweet-toothed shoppers in Ipswich have gone nutty for a sugary treat, with sales at a new doughnut kiosk going through the roof during its first month of business.

Krispy Kreme set up shop in the Buttermarket Centre in February when excited customers queued for up to three hours to be one of the first in line.

Since then it has sold 25,944 single doughnuts and 2,491 boxes of dozens to hungry passers-by.

East Anglians also seem to have a soft spot for choc as the Krispy Kreme Nutty Chocolatta comes top of the charts. The doughnut, which is filled with Nutella, dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with hazelnuts, was chosen by around 8,000 people.

Alex Drysdale, operations director at Krispy Kreme, said: “Ipswich has been a joy; we had been waiting to expand in the area for a long time and the public has welcomed us with open arms, which we’ve been really grateful for.

“The reception has been brilliant, the sales have been fantastic and we’re over the moon to see our much-loved Nutty Chocolatta reigning supreme as Ipswich’s champion treat.”
