IPSWICH Junior Chess Club held an open day in which more than 40 chess players turned up to get the low-down on its activities.

The club meets between 10am-noon on Saturdays in school term time.

Mayor of Ipswich Maureen Carrington-Brown – a keen chess player – attended the open day at Copleston High School, along with one of Suffolk's youngest chess players, a five-year-old boy.

Organiser Steven Donaghy said that all standards of player aged from five to 18 years old are welcome at the club any term-time Saturday at Copleston school in Ipswich.
