A CHOIR of 60 is set to perform songs from the last 500 years at a concert in aid of Ipswich Hospital's cancer services.
Derek Smith, who has conducted the annual charity concert for the last six years, selected members of the choir from Woodbridge, Deben, Ipswich Operatic and Dramatic Society, St Augustine's Church and The Tower Church choir.
In the past two years the concert has raised up to 2,000 for both prostate cancer and East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH). This year the choir has chosen to perform in aid of the oncology department of Ipswich Hospital.
Half the proceeds will go to the church's vestry fund to enable the refurbishment of St Augstine's existing vestry and the building of an extension.
Mr Smith said: “Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and I would particularly like to invite people along who have experience of Ipswich Hospital's oncology department.
“Their presence at this concert will be a small but very significant way of expressing their appreciation and grateful thanks for the supportive care and attention given by the doctors and staff of the local oncology department to all of its patients.
