The rare bearded-tooth fungus has been rediscovered at RSPB Minsmere nature reserve, near Westleton, having not been seen there for nearly ten years.
However, there have been no records since 1999, until several fungi experts discovered it during a recent visit.
RSPB Ecologist, Mark Gurney, said: “Bearded tooth fungus is usually found on dead wood on broad-leaved trees, especially beech, and probably favours standing dead wood, rather than fallen trunks. This is one of several species of tooth fungus, which have spines rather the gills found on mushrooms. It is fantastic to rediscover this rare fungus at Minsmere.”
