POLICE investigating the red light killings have found items of clothing near the Orwell Bridge following ongoing searches of the area.

The search began at around 2pm on Sunday when around a dozen officers were seen in the area assisted by coastguards.

Onlookers claim efforts have gradually been stepped up over the past three days.

Police today revealed officers have found clothing that could be connected with the red light killings and are continuing to search for further items.

A police spokesman said: “These are searches that are ongoing in relation to tracing clothing from the victims.

“We have found some items of clothing which may or may not be of relevance.”

One man who lives in the area, who did not wish to be named, said officers were searching the river bank as well as inland areas close to Fox's Marina.

The man said: “The searches have been going on since Sunday but the police appear to have stepped up their activity.

“There are more police there and guys are prodding the ground with sticks.”

The area currently being searched, near The Strand off Wherstead Road, is just a few hundred yards from where Belstead Brook joins the River Orwell.

The bodies of Gemma Adams and Tania Nicol were both found in Belstead Brook.

Officers from around the country are still assisting Suffolk police with the investigation.
