AN elderly woman has today been left shaken after distraction burglars stole money from her purse.

A man knocked on the door of the 86-year-old, in Dover Road, Ipswich, at 2.15pm yesterday .

He asked to check her water and electricity and was let into the property where he stole items from her purse.

He is described as white, about 5ft 4in, late thirties, with short mousey hair.

He was clean shaven, had tanned skin, was slim and was wearing coffee coloured trousers, a light coloured long sleeved shirt and light coloured cotton gloves.

A second offender, who was not seen, went upstairs in the property and stole cash from a wardrobe. Anyone with information to this incident should contact Dc Debbie Bates at Ipswich CID on 01473 613500.

Police are also appealing for information today after two attempted distraction burglaries in Eyke.

Three men targeted houses in the Church Lane area yesterday lunchtime but got away empty handed.

In the first incident a woman in her 70s was in her back garden between 12.45pm and 1.10pm when she noticed a man.

He told her he was looking for a football and she searched the garden for it.

Meanwhile the man went into her house and when the woman returned indoors she found him, and two other men, there and asked them to leave. They all left empty handed.

Police are linking the incident to a similar bogus call in the same area at about 1.30pm.

In that incident a man called at the door of another woman and asked if she wanted a clothing collection bag for charity.

The woman noticed two other men further away from the door but none of them gained entry.

Anyone with information should call Woodbridge police on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
