“SOMETHING new, something old, something borrowed and something red” was the motto for the day for happy couple Jackie and Stephen Riding.

The newlyweds shunned bridal cars and decided to take a less traditional method of transportation to their wedding reception.

The red double-decker was originally timetabled just to take the guests from the wedding to the reception at Priory Hall in Hadleigh, but the bride wanted to be with all of her friends and family on the journey.

Jackie Riding, nee McMahon, said: “We didn't want to miss out on the excitement.

“I thought - why should I hire another vehicle when I can have a fun one and we can leave the church with all our friends.”

Jackie admits that the film Summer Holiday may have been an inspiration for the idea. The couple however, won't be taking the bus to their honeymoon, which is to be in Egypt with a cruise on the Nile and an extended stay in Cairo.

The hockey enthusiasts were engaged for a year before they were married in the heart of East Bergholt at St Mary the Virgin Church yesterday at midday.

They met in London but decided to move to East Bergholt to find a better quality of life. Stephen commutes to London while Jackie works at Orwell Housing Association in Ipswich.
