DEMOLITION work at Cranfields is now starting to expose the base of the giant grain silo which is to be rebuilt to form the 23-storey high centrepiece of the redevelopment of the site.
Much of the existing concrete structure, which dates from the 1950s, is expected to be retained to be used as a platform around which the new tower will be built.
However it will be unrecogniseable from the current industrial icon.
The demolition is being handled by Suffolk-based contractors CDC and is rapidly changing the outlook of the area.
Most of the old Cranfields grain storage will be demolished, although the Victorian façade on to the wet dock itself is due to be retained in the redevelopment of the site.
