A WOMAN'S partner and their unborn baby have both died after a horrific motorcycle accident.

Ian Adams, 26, died at the scene of the crash in Colchester on Sunday and his pregnant girlfriend was seriously injured.

The 30-year-old woman, who has not been named, was six months pregnant but her baby also lost its life following the accident.

She was in Colchester General Hospital last night in a serious but stable condition.

Mr Adams, of Kendall Road, Colchester, was riding a Honda motorcycle with his partner as the pillion passenger when the accident happened at 10.30am on Sunday.

The pair were travelling along the Avenue of Remembrance when they were involved in a collision with a burgundy red Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The collision happened close to the junction where the Colchester bypass joins the southbound A12 and led to the road being closed for several hours.

The driver of the Jeep, a 42-year-old man from Harwich, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was released on bail pending further enquiries until October 31.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the accident to contact the Stanway Road Policing Unit on 01206 762512.
