Some of the most distinctive British aircraft from the Second World War to the 21st century flew over The Mall today as part of events marking the Queen’s 90th birthday.

But some of the planes were spotted above Suffolk just 15 minutes before the appearance in London as they formed up ready for the display.

They included some of the Royal Air Force’s largest transport aircraft and the famous Red Arrows display team.

The planes flew right across the centre of Ipswich and over the waterfront at low level, just above the height of some of the town’s tallest buildings, before following the path of the A12 towards London – which is almost directly in line with The Mall after it makes its way into central London.
