A WOMAN and a dog have been cut free from a car following an accident on the A14 in which a caravan overturned.

The accident happened on the eastbound carriageway of the A14 at the Kentford turnoff near Newmarket at 1.16pm today.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said the accident involved two cars and a caravan.

Firefighters used special cutting equipment to release a woman and a dog from the car.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police said the car towing the caravan came to rest on the eastbound carriageway while the caravan itself careered through the central reservation and ended up on the opposite carriageway.

She said the woman who was freed from the car was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital as well as a man involved in the accident.

Neither were seriously injured.

The westbound carriageway of the A14 was closed for around an hour while the caravan was recovered.

A single lane of the eastbound carriageway remains closed while the repair work to the central reservation is carried out.
