Mik Stoddard found the apple filled with pellets at about 6pm on Sunday. It is not known how long it had been on the path.
The incident, which has left Mr Stoddart worried about the safety of other animals, was reported to police.
Officers are currently working to gather more information about the discovery.
A police spokeswoman urged anyone that may be able to assist with investigations to contact the Felixstowe Safer Neighbourhood Team.
