CRACKERJACK star Don Maclean is to visit an Ipswich church next month.

The Good Morning Sunday presenter received an MBE for his services to religion and inter-faith dialogue in 2001.

He is expected to discuss his beliefs when he visits St Margaret's Church in February.

Church fundraiser Jennifer Hartley, said: "We met Don Maclean whilst on a pilgrimage to Israel.

"When we returned we sent him a church brochure and he said he'd do anything he could to help."

The event, on Wednesday, February 18, is aimed at raising money for a new church extension which will include toilets, a kitchen and disabled access.

The church needs to raise £100,000 towards the cost of the project and with 200 tickets available for the evening - the event is expected to raise a considerable amount of money.

Mrs Hartley added: "We are expecting him to talk about his programme and sign some of his books.

"He is an awfully nice chap and very happy to help."

Church souvenirs will also be on sale throughout the evening and, as a Crackerjack style gimmick, the church's pencils will be available for the first time.

Mr Maclean will be appearing at St Margaret's Church hall in Bolton Lane from 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £8 and can be purchased by contacting Jennifer Hartley on 01473 225637.
