TWO rabbits found Easter wasn't the best time to be a bunny when they were dumped by their owner.

The young adult female rabbits were left outside the home of Christine Fisher,

who used to run the Trimley Rabbit Rescue centre.

But the centre closed last year - leaving Christine, of High Road, Trimley St Mary, with the problem of two rabbits for which to find homes.

"The rabbits were just left in a box in the garden - I suppose whoever left them just thought the rescue centre was still here and didn't know I had stopped," she said.

"It was very irresponsible, too, of whoever left them because they could quite easily have escaped from the box and then got out onto the road and been killed.

"If people really cannot look after their rabbits - or any pets - for whatever reason, there is a proper and safe way to hand them over to an organisation which will then look after them and try to re-home them.

"These rabbits were left with no note at all, so I cannot tell whether they have been vaccinated against myxomatosis - which means I cannot put them in with my own rabbits until they are re-homed - or have any other problems."

Christine said the rabbits, one black and white and the other brown, both Dutch breed, looked well-fed and cared for and there were no signs of neglect.

She appealed for anyone with any information about them to get in touch with her on 01394 210671, and advised anyone wanting to re-home a rabbit or who could no longer look after theirs to contact Thumpers rabbit rescue in Ipswich.
