Of those already counted, the piles of Conservative votes are steadily growing.
The delay is blaimed on the fact that boxes had to be shipped from as far away as Southwold and Felixstowe to the count at Suffolk Constabulary’s Martlesham Heath HQ.
Returning officer Stephen Baker explained that the count has started while verification of other voting slips continues elsewhere in the hall.
All eyes now on the piles of counted votes on a table at the far end of the hall . . . but it’s early days yet.
The result is expected around 5am.
Conservatives hold the seat - Therese Coffey won it last time round - and it would be a big shock if that changed.
