BARONESS Ros Scott, a former Suffolk County Councillor has been named as president of the Liberal Democrats.Baroness Scott who is a life peer, sits on the Liberal Democrat benches as Baroness Scott of Needham Market and replaces Simon Hughes as head of the party.

BARONESS Ros Scott, a former Suffolk County Councillor has been named as president of the Liberal Democrats.

Baroness Scott who is a life peer, sits on the Liberal Democrat benches as Baroness Scott of Needham Market and replaces Simon Hughes as head of the party. She will take up the post on January 1.

She is currently vice-chairman of the Local Government Association and recently served as the party's spokesman on local government in the House of Lords.

Baroness Scott said: “Our Party is a genuine grass roots movement, and the job of the President is to ensure that we stay that way - that our members and activists remain at the heart of everything we do.”

She added: “I am proud to be able to play my part, alongside Nick Clegg and Vince Cable, in increasing Liberal Democrat representation at all levels of Government in all parts of the country.”
