MORE than 1,500 Blues fans have now signed a petition to rename Ipswich Town's North Stand in honour of Sir Bobby Robson.

Tributes to the sporting legend have been flooding in since the online petition was launched last Thursdaywhen the 75-year-old admitted that the cancer he is so bravely fighting may kill him within months.

Fans are keen to see the accolade introduced before the former Ipswich Town boss dies and more than 1,560 people have added their names to the cause.

Key figures from the Ipswich community have backed the campaign, and the football club has agreed to give the matter some consideration.

Among those signing the petition, James Hubbard said Sir Bobby was a “true legend” and another fan, known as Wicked Blue, said “Sir Bobby deserves this”.

Chris Robinson said: “This is the finest gesture the Ipswich fans are able to make to show the level of our affection and gratitude, and we hope the club agree to our request.

“We would be nothing without Sir Bobby's service to our club - let's show the world what we think of him whilst he is still around to see the depth of our gratitude.”

The petition was started by Blues die-hard fan, Andy Feasey, who said: “I came into work and saw the news article about Sir Bobby and thought it was about time the club did something in his honour. The man has done so much for Ipswich Town - it's time he was properly recognised for that.”
