ON your marks, get set . . . but it's still four days before go, as Felixstowe prepares for its biggest annual fun run.

Already 175 people have entered for the popular event, and it's not too late for others to join them.

Entries will be accepted right up to and on the day of the Felixstowe Rotary Road Races, which take place on Bank Holiday Monday.

Mark Davis, of the rotary club, said: "We are very pleased with the entry numbers so far and I am sure there will be more before the race begins.

"We have sent out 500 sponsor cards and will accept entries on the day of the run, as we have in previous years."

The fun run takes place at 11.15am and runners have an hour to do as many laps of the mile-long course as they can.

Among those who have entered so far are several local clubs and organisations, and some of those teams will wear fancy dress.

The fun runners pay £3 to enter for under 16s and £5 for over 16s and then raise as much sponsorship for their chosen cause as they can.

Organisers of the day, the Rotary Club of Felixstowe, have pledged £1,000 from their fundraising to the Evening Star-backed appeal to build a memorial to murdered schoolgirl Vicky Hall.

It is hoped that many of the runners taking part will also contribute to the appeal by nominating it as their chosen charity.

The donation is a big boost for the appeal to build a sports pavilion in memory of 17-year-old Vicky, who was snatched from the street and killed as she walked home to Trimley St Mary from a Felixstowe nightclub.

The road races start and finish at the Spa Pavilion with runners going along the seafront and up along the clifftops in Hamilton Gardens and down to the sea via Bent Hill.

Before mayor Harry Dangerfield sets the fun run on its way, there will be at 10.15am a Suffolk AAA five-mile championship race, with the main sponsor being Felixstowe Car Centre, Crescent Road.

It is the 23rd year the event has been run and there will be stalls and other games and entertainment on the seafront.

Entry forms are available from the Evening Star Adcenta in Solar superstore in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe, and further information is available from Mark Davis on 01394 670367.

n People can support the Evening Star appeal for Vicky by sending donations. Cheques should be made payable to the Vicky Hall Memorial Fund and sent to Geraldine Thompson, editor's secretary, Evening Star, Press House, 30 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP4 1AN.
