DETECTIVES hunting two men involved in an attempted smash and grab raid at a Felixstowe jewellery store have used reports from witnesses to piece together exactly what happened.

Officers are still working on the case and following a number of lines of inquiry.

Today they thanked the public for their help and said they would still like to hear from anyone who saw the break-in attempt at Hill’s the Jewellers in Orwell Road, where the would-be thieves tried smashing the shop window with a hammer, which they then left behind at the scene as they ran off.

“It is an on-going investigation and a number of lines of inquiry are being followed up at this time,” said a police spokeswoman.

“We have spoken to a lot of members of the public about what they saw and we would like to thank them for their help.

“We would still welcome contact from people who may have seen the incident or the men and who have not been in touch so far.”

CCTV footage has also been viewed by officers.

The incident happened at 1.35pm on Thursday, August 9. Witnesses said two men of mixed race were seen to run off towards Leopold Road.

Both were in their late teens to 20s, around 5ft 10ins.

One wore a green hooded top, green padded Barbour-style jacket and jeans, and the other a grey padded Barbour-style jacket and dark coloured tracksuit bottoms.

Nothing was stolen from the jewellers, though damage was caused to the shop window.
