YOUNGSTERS, parents and community leaders joined together for a special celebration to mark Level Two’s successful first decade helping young people in the Felixstowe area.

The celebration was held in the Spa Pavilion lounge with an exhibition showing the project’s work and a chance for people to meet the staff and management board and find out more about its activities.

Displays illustrated Level Two’s current work and plans for the future – with its workload about to grow.

Project manager Shez Southernwood said open access youth club sessions were currently held four times a week – Monday evenings is a dance session, Wednesday after-school is for year 7s, Thursday evenings year 8s and Friday Late Night for those in year 9 and above.

Level Two is also active in the community with detached youth work, while at both campuses of Felixstowe Academy, weekly Health Matters drop-in sessions are held, and from its base at Walton House, Walton High Street, one-to-one mentoring is provided for those with specific needs.

The project has in the past worked with 11 to 19-year-olds, but is now extending this to work with 10 to 25-year-olds.

“This will enable staff to engage with those in year 6 with transition to high school by offering taster sessions,” she said.

“With those aged 16 to 25 who are in further education, NEET, or with housing issues – we aim to offer a range of services.”

Partnership agencies from Alive and Kicking, BOOST and Felixstowe Leisure Centre also joined the tenth celebration afternoon with stands promoting their facilities and services for young people.

Music was provided by the band Huthier, and a tenth birthday cake was cut to celebrate the anniversary.

? Volunteers are needed to join the management board, or to help at sessions.
