FIRE crews were called to a blaze at a former home for the elderly in Ipswich.
The fire took hold at the two-storey Clumpfield building in Cambridge Drive shortly before 1pm yesterday and three pumps from Ipswich and a hydraulic platform from Essex attended the blaze. It is believed the fire began in the first floor roof space.
Clumpfield is a former 30-flat sheltered housing scheme built by a housing association in the early 1970s on land leased from the Council.
It has been empty since 2000 after homes on the site became difficult to let in the mid 1990s.
