A REVIVED Victorian seaside pier which re-opened at a Suffolk resort less than a year ago, was today toasted as the best in Britain.
The National Piers Society named the pier at Southwold as Pier of the Year for 2002.
Southwold Pier, which dates to 1899, was renovated by businessman Chris Iredale. It was re-opened in July by the Duke of Gloucester and managers aim to have a steamer ship dock there in June for the first time in more than 70 years.
Deal Pier, in Kent, was second.
