Ipswich Town fans have begin leaving floral tributes to club legend Kevin Beattie outside Portman Road.

Beattie, often referred to as Town’s greatest ever player, died yesterday from a suspected heart attack.

His death stunned fans and led to an outpouring of tributes from former colleagues and big names in the world of football.

While many of the tributes have been left over social media, floral offerings have also started to appear at the Sir Bobby Robson statue in Portman Road.

One said: “Kevin Beattie RIP.

“An Ipswich legend!

“You’re reunited with the gaffer again.

“Thanks for all the memories.

“A true gent.

“Love Rikki and Jules.”

It comes after some fans have started calling for Beattie to have his own statue built next to Sir Bobby’s in his honour.

A Facebook page called “Give Kevin Beattie a Statue at Portman Road” had been liked by nearly 200 people by this morning.

Fans supporting the calls, described Beattie as a “class act” a “top notch player” and “phenomenal”.

Ipswich Town FC announced there will be minute’s applause before Tuesday’s game against Brentwood FC at Portman Road to remember Beattie following his sad passing.

Beattie joined club in July 1971 and played for the club for 10 years.

He picked up accolades including 1973-74 PFA Young Player of the Year, won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981.
