A man was in custody today in connection with the death of a 30-year-old football fan who sustained fatal injuries at a Premier League match.
Police have confirmed the Blackburn Rovers supporter had died in hospital just before 2am today.
He was found unconscious in a stand during yesterday's clash between Stoke City and Blackburn at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.
The man was treated at the scene for a head injury and cardiac arrest, then taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "A 25-year-old man remains in custody and is helping police with their inquiries."
The victim was found collapsed in the concourse area of the south stand just after the half-time interval, where a group of Blackburn supporters were gathered. No Stoke fans are believed to have been involved in the tragedy.
