Fore Street swimming pool shut until next week after firefighters tackle flooding
Fore Street swimming pool.
Fore Street swimming pool in Ipswich has been closed until next week after a flood was tackled by firefighters today.
Two fire engines were called to the swimming pool, run by Ipswich Borough Council (IBC), after a boiler valve burst and flooded the equipment room at 11.20am. Firefighters repaired the leak and pumped the flooded water out of the building.
An IBC spokesman said the swimming pool will be closed until “early next week”.
He said: “The fire service pumped out the excess water but we now have to get parts delivered and installed.
“We apologise for the inconvenience to swimmers but hope that they can still enjoy swimming at Crown Pools while the repairs at Fore Street take place.”
A fire brigade spokesman said: “One crew from Ipswich East were mobilised to a flooding in the plant room of the swimming pool.
“On arrival crews requested the Operational Support Unit from Ipswich East. Crews managed to stop the leak which caused the flooding and used a portable pump and submersible pump to pump the water out of the building.
