The former offices of the Ipswich Star and East Anglian Daily Times in Ipswich’s Lower Brook Street are rapidly fading into only memories as the demolition teams work to clear the site.

Most of the main office that fronted on to Lower Brook Street has now gone – although the old print hall and advertising department is still mainly intact.

The site is being cleared to allow the construction of a new McCarthy & Stone retirement development of sheltered homes.

Construction work on that scheme is due to start early next year once the demolition is completed.

The first units at the new development are expected to be completed by the end of next year and could be occupied by Christmas 2018.

The Star and EADT moved to new offices at Portman House on the junction of Princes Street and Portman Road in October last year – but Lower Brook Street was the company’s home for nearly 50 years.
