The former offices of Archant in Suffolk – publishers of the EADT and Ipswich Star – are now only a memory as the demolition work on the Lower Brook Street site in Ipswich nears completion.

Almost a year after Archant moved to new offices in Portman House, the former building has been flattened in preparation for the land’s redevelopment as new McCarthy & Stone homes.

The buildings have now almost all disappeared and the land will be flattened between now and the end of the year.

Construction of the new sheltered housing with 51 one and two-bedroomed flats is due to start early next year and the first new homes are due to be ready for occupation by people aged 60 or over by the end of 2018.

Lower Brook Street was the home of the newspapers in Suffolk since 1966. The historic building that was the former social club is to be converted into homes over the next few years.
