HAVE they gone a bridge too far?
Developers Fairview Homes are today being pressured by residents who are clamouring for the long awaited Sir Bobby Robson bridge in Ipswich to finally open.
Three months after it was supposed to open, work on Ipswich's bridge has still not been completed causing an undercurrent of dissatisfaction among those that live on the new housing estate in Ranelagh Road.
The bridge, which spans the River Orwell, provides direct access to West End Road and into town centre.
It seemed to be finished at the start of the year and was due to be officially opened in March, however safety work is yet to be completed, which could take another eight weeks.
Suffolk County Council has said the lighting on the structure needs to be installed and pedestrian safety barriers need to be put up next to the bridge approach to stop people getting to the river below.
Angry resident Rory Vaughan, 22, who lives on the development, said: βIt takes about ten minutes at the moment to get into town but I think it would be half that if we could go across the bridge.β
