For years a simple toothy grin carved into the front of a pumpkin sufficed but now a new trend is emerging.
Tonight trick or treaters calling at homes around Ipswich and the rest of Suffolk will be greeted by intricately carved pumpkins resembling anything from Mickey Mouse to haunted houses.
To celebrate our talented pumpkin artists, we asked you to send in photos of your creations. And you did not disappoint, we have seen photos outlines of witches on broomsticks cut out of pumpkins and candlelight flooding out through an carefully carved owl.
Instead of wielding huge kitchen knives and hacking away at the iconic autumnal squash, the pumpkin carvers of Suffolk have used drills, fine saws and a range of other kitchen implements to create their masterpieces.
Reader Amber Broad sent a photo of her Disney-themed carving and said: “My three-and-a-half-year-old daughter requested Mickey Mouse so after much careful carving here is the finished product.”
She added: “I am dreading the request for next year.”
