Shang-a-Lang, Remember (Sha La La La) and By Bye Baby. If these song titles mean something, you were probably a fan of the Bay City Rollers and a member of the ‘Tartan Army’ in the mid 1970s.

They sold millions of records and were the boy band of the moment. Most of their fans were teenage girls and the shows were packed with screaming youngsters, reminiscent of the Beatles’ shows around a decade earlier.

Between 1974 and 1976 they had nine top ten hits with Bye Bye Baby and Give a Little Love, both making number one. In 1975 and 1976 they were at the Gaumont Theatre, Ipswich, and I found these photographs in the Star’s archives taken by staff photographers Jerry Turner and Richard Snasdell.
