THIS week a group of 24 people took to the streets in their all-in-one adult baby grows to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH).

The event was organised by Julie West, bar supervisor at the Bramford Cock, and saw staff and punters unite to take to the streets in the name of charity.

The borough council has announced this week that it is declaring war on loan sharks in the town.

It has been announced that this year’s Orwell Walk is set to have a twist, as organisers have introduced a new Orwell Cycle event to run alongside it. With the help of Paralympic powerlifter Zoe Newson, the Ipswich East Rotary Club launched its 37th Orwell Walk, which will be held on Sunday, June 30.

Ipswich Town players were promoting the Co-operative Multi-sports Programme this week. Fitness coaches will deliver sessions based around speed and agility at 12 schools. Children taking part will receive a booklet to encourage them to continue to develop and improve their fitness and practice the skills they have learnt and to inspire them even more, each youngster will get free entry to an ITFC game at Portman Road this season.

Two charities have been handed grants this wek totalling £10,000 to help continue their good work. The May Gurney Foundation, the charitable arm of support services specialist May Gurney, has given funds of £5,000 each to the Suffolk Young People’s Health Project, based in Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, and Leiston-based Young People Taking Action.

A nursery boss has been overwhelmed by generosity this week after Star readers flocked to help in the wake of the theft of their children’s playhouse.

Children at Spitfires Nursery were devastated when the playhouse was taken shortly after it had been delivered. Following an article in the Star, the nursery was inundated with offers of help, including a pledge from a businessman to donate the cash needed to replace the equipment.

A couple from Ipswich have been rewarded for their festive lights display. Sheila and Bob Hales, of Wherstead Road, were the winners of The Star’s 2012 best Christmas lights competition.

Budding stars of the future will take to the stage as the heats get under way for Felixstowe’s Got Talent – with the competition having attracted a record number of entries. Singers, dance troupes and variety acts were getting ready this week for the event, and tickets are already selling fast.
