A SCHOOLGIRL has been left deeply traumatised after a sex attack in the children's section of a Suffolk bookstore.The 12-year-old's mother has told of her daughter's horrifying ordeal in the Waterstones branch in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday afternoon.

The 12-year-old's mother has told of her daughter's horrifying ordeal in the Waterstones branch in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday afternoon.

She appealed for anyone with information about the “scruffy” attacker to come forward and said she had left her daughter in the store for only a few minutes while she went to another shop.

The young victim was touched inappropriately by her attacker and her mother said she had been left shocked.

Police, are appealing for witnesses to the attack between 4.10pm and 4.30pm on Tuesday to come forward.

Mary McIntosh, manageress at the store, said staff had been stunned by what happened and moved to reassure the public that security, although already tight at the store, would be stepped up further.

The attacker was white, in his 40s, of average build, 5ft 7ins tall, with very short, grey hair and unshaven. He is scruffy-looking, wearing a cream or white bodywarmer and walked with a limp.
